Width: The inside width of the extension must not exceed the width of the fork by more than half an inch. Common widths include 4.5 inches, 5.5 inches, and 6.5 inches.


Capacity: Extensions reduce the forklift's load capacity. A 3,000 lb rated forklift at a 24-inch load center has an adjusted capacity of only 1,400 lbs when using extensions at a 48-inch load center.
